Benzyl alcohol CharacteristicsAltrenogest is a progestagen that is active after oral administration. Altrenogest decreases the concentration of the endogenous gonadotropins LH and FSH in blood and blocks oestrus or ovulation. Ending of treatment is followed by a gradual elevation of LH concentration and the majority of mares will ovulate between 11 and 14 days afterwards.
