Lipitor (Atorvastatin) – Composition and Indications

🩺 Indications (Uses):

Lipitor is a statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) used to:

Primary Uses:

1. Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol)

   • Lowering total cholesterol, LDL-C (bad cholesterol), and triglycerides

   • Raising HDL-C (good cholesterol)

2. Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)

   • Reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke, and angina in patients with:

     • Coronary heart disease (CHD)

     • Risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, smoking, age

3. Familial Hypercholesterolemia

   • For patients with inherited forms of high cholesterol (heterozygous or homozygous)

⚠️ Important Notes:

• Lipitor works best when used alongside:

  • A low-fat diet

  • Exercise

  • Weight control

• Regular monitoring of liver enzymes and lipid levels is recommended during treatment.

• It should not be used in:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women

  • Patients with active liver disease
