Cogintol® 2 mg tablets contain benztropine mesylate, an anticholinergic (also known as Cogentin® in some countries). Here’s what you need to know:

🧠 What is it used for?

1. Parkinsonism (Parkinson’s disease)

   • Helps reduce tremor, muscle rigidity, and slowed movement by restoring balance between neurotransmitters in the brain Usually part of a multi-drug regimen.

2. Medication-induced extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS)

   • Treats involuntary muscle spasms and movement disorders caused by antipsychotics like haloperidol or phenothiazines 

⚙️ How does it work?

• Mechanism: Blocks acetylcholine (cholinergic signals), helping rebalance with dopamine in the motor system. It can also increase dopamine activity indirectly .

💊 Dosage & Administration

• Typical dose: 0.5 – 6 mg daily.

  • For adults with Parkinsonism: start at bedtime (0.5–1 mg), adjust as needed—up to 6 mg/day 

  • For EPS from antipsychotics: 1–4 mg once or twice daily .
