Active Constituents:
Enrofloxacin 10% in a solution for injection. Available in 50mL bottles.

Action:
Enrofloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic that relies on its interaction with the A subunit of DNA gyrase in target bacteria for its bactericidal effect. This inhibits the enzyme and prevents DNA replication. The fluoroquinolones also act on non-replicating bacteria by altering the permeability of the outer phospholipid layer of the cell wall. Combined, these independent modes of action lead to rapid death of susceptible bacteria. No cross resistance has been reported between fluoroquinolones and other anti-bacterial classes commonly used in veterinary medicine. Enrofloxacin is active against a wide range of Gram+ve and Gram-ve bacteria and Mycoplasma spp.

Indication:
Treatment of bacterial infections of bones in pigs and cattle, and mastitis in cows where the causative organisms have been confirmed to be either Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas. When treating mastitis, appropriate intra-mammary treatment with another antibiotic should also be used. Also useful for the treatment of infections of the male reproductive tract (prostatitis, vesiculitis, orchitis) in bulls, and infections of cattle and pigs at sites where poor tissue penetration is to be expected.

Dosage:
For s/c injection in cattle and i/m injection in pigs.
CATTLE and PIGS: Standard dose rate 2.5mL/100kg b.w/day for 3 days. Severe respiratory infections: 5.0mL/100kg b.w/day for 3 days.

Withholding Times:
MEAT: Cattle and pigs producing meat and offal for human consumption must not be sold for slaughter either during treatment or within 7 days of the last treatment. MILK: Milk intended for sale for human consumption must be discarded during treatment and for 7 days, 14 milkings (168 hours) following the last treatment.
